Fifty years ago today, a young band calling themselves the Rolling Stones made their live debut in London, covering songs from the likes of Jimmy Reed and Bukka White. They went on to write a few songs of their own and in time, experience the loftiest levels of success. The band's front men, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards captured an adoring publics attention with outlandish behavior and no-holds-barred attitudes. Of course, there were other members of the band who exhibited greater levels of self restraint. One of them is bassist, Bill Wyman. Bill is currently retired from the band, but as a founding member we thought it appropriate to take a closer look at his Rolex GMT.
The Rolex GMT came to market in 1954, and has seen as many as seven references. Most of us know and love the watch for its distinctive Pepsi bezel, breaking the 24 hr scale into AM and PM. It has seen other color variations and even solid schemes over the years, of the more peculiar being the "Root Beer" configuration. These watches carry a light brown bezel and dial combination that get a very lust worthy patina over time. Bill Wyman is known to wear one of these "root beer" GMTs, with a few unexpected details.
Wyman's watch is a two-tone example, using both steel and yellow gold in the bracelet. In most instances this means a jubilee bracelet, but Wyman's happens to be of the oyster style. A combination rarely seen. Have a look at a few more images after the break to see what other details you're able to discern and leave any thoughts in the comments and turn up Paint It Black while you're at it.
